The Hockaday School is an independent college preparatory day and boarding school in Dallas, Texas, serving over 1,000 girls from pre-K through 12th grade. Known for its rigorous academic programs and commitment to character development, Hockaday emphasizes the importance of leadership and community service as integral parts of its students’ education. Each student is encouraged to engage in volunteer work, with the school setting community service requirements that help foster a lifelong dedication to giving back.
In August 2017, The Hockaday School adopted MobileServe community service tracking software to better manage and monitor its students’ volunteer activities. With MobileServe, the school can efficiently organize students by grade level, allowing administrators to generate detailed reports for each grade as well as for the entire school. The Goals feature in MobileServe enables administrators to track students’ progress toward their service requirements, easily identifying those who need additional encouragement and those who have excelled in their contributions.
Upon graduation, Hockaday’s administration can seamlessly remove the graduating class from the system while retaining their data for historical reporting purposes. Although these graduates can no longer log hours for the school, their MobileServe accounts remain active, allowing them to continue tracking their volunteer work independently.
Additionally, The Hockaday School takes full advantage of MobileServe’s integrations, regularly transferring their service hour data back into the their Student Information System. This integration ensures that students’ community service efforts are recognized and recorded as part of their overall educational experience.

Mercy Academy, a Catholic high school for girls in Louisville, KY, leverages MobileServe to enhance its Service Learning & Leadership Program. This experiential program is designed to empower students by engaging them in meaningful service and social action, focusing on vulnerable populations within the community. Every student at Mercy Academy participates in this transformative four-year program.
By utilizing MobileServe’s user-friendly platform, students can easily log and track their community service efforts, making it a seamless part of their high school experience. A standout feature of the Service Learning & Leadership Program is the “Summer Immersion” initiative, which motivates students to continue their volunteer work even during the summer months. In 2016 alone, students logged nearly 2,000 hours of summer service, further solidifying Mercy Academy’s commitment to fostering a culture of compassion, leadership, and social responsibility among its students.
Through MobileServe, students log their service hours by selecting from five specific program categories, with each entry requiring verification from a supervisor at the service organization. The Service Learning & Leadership Coordinator at Mercy Academy then reviews and approves each submission, using the MobileServe logs to determine grades for the program.
MobileServe’s robust approval system allows the Coordinator to provide feedback on any rejected logs, which students receive via email with a direct link for making necessary corrections. This streamlined process ensures that all service logs are accurately categorized, helping students meet their program requirements with ease.
